CTRM software in 2026: the honest map of your options
Most CTRM comparisons are written by vendors pretending the market has one answer. It has four, and the right one depends almost entirely on the size of your book. Here is the map we give prospects, including where we are not the answer.
The four realistic options
1. Enterprise CTRM platforms: ION, Brady, Eka
ION's commodity suite (Openlink, Allegro, RightAngle), Brady Technologies and Eka serve the largest trading houses: deep exotics coverage, established vendor relationships, large reference bases among majors. They are serious platforms, and for a multi-desk house trading complex derivatives at scale they are often the right shortlist.
The honest caveats: pricing is not published and implementations are consultant-led projects commonly measured in years and seven figures all-in. Below roughly £500M turnover the economics get hard to justify, and below £100M they rarely close at all. If that is your bracket, an enterprise RFP mostly costs you a year.
2. Spreadsheets
The world's most deployed CTRM. Free, infinitely flexible, and understood by everyone on the desk. The failure mode is equally well known: the 100-column deal book and the separate hedge blotter agree right up until the day they do not, and the reconciliation error surfaces as a six-figure position surprise. Spreadsheets also cannot enforce the rules that keep a book honest: internal hedges counted as cover, unpriced legs leaking into the flat position, margin netted across brokers.
3. opsPhlo: cloud CTRM + ERP for the mid-market
Our full platform, for £10M-£500M trading houses: contracts, logistics, inventory, hedging, risk, finance and real-time P&L on one cloud-native system, with ERP depth (general ledger, multi-entity accounting) powered by Acumatica. Roughly 93% lower total cost than a legacy CTRM implementation, live in weeks rather than 12-18 months. Detailed comparison here.
4. opsPhlo Lite: the small-desk tier, currently free
For desks of one to five people that today run on spreadsheets. Deal book, positions and inventory derived from the deals, futures and FX hedging with per-broker margin and projected margin calls, LC workability and discrepancy checking, laytime, letters of indemnity, invoices and AR/AP. Self-serve signup, no card, working system in minutes.
